Innovating with Ephesoft
Ike Kavas, CTO at Ephesoft

Imaging Replacement Version 2.0
Brian Gray, Managing Director at Baldwin & Lyons
Next, Brian Gray took to the podium to share how the Alfresco, Ephesoft, and SimFloFy solutions from Zia helped this property and casualty insurer create a streamlined system for their documents. What started as an attempt to unify their claims system revealed that this was much more than an IT initiative. With previous attempts at implementation through other vendors, Baldwin & Lyons found that a sub-par migration solution was going to delay delivery by 10 months.
That’s when they found Zia. They were concerned about starting from scratch and wanted to see what parts of their investment could still be used moving forward. In addition to utilizing SimFloFy for document conversion, Zia was able to find an expert on the previous vendor’s software and thus use as much of their previous investment as possible. In just seven days, the new migration system was able to move millions of documents into the new Alfresco system. This not only changed the way things were set up—it changed the way they do business.
The future vision for Baldwin & Lyons includes figuring out the best ways to use Alfresco for their single system of record. Through this, they hope to expand workflow and automate their content retention. This is all possible thanks to an easy-to-use system with business ownership and extensive support from executives.
Ephesoft: What’s New, What’s Hot, What’s Different
Pat Myers, EVP at Zia
As the Zia expert on Ephesoft, Pat Myers took us through what the current capabilities are as well as where the software is headed. There is currently robust integration and automation incorporated into the software. This can be seen in the unique Easy ECM, self-service portal, business automation, and Easy RM. Ephesoft will continue to build upon these features, but they are also focused on bringing big things in the future.
Zia has a primary goal of creating smart content solutions that users love through Alfresco and Ephesoft. When a system is easy to use, user adoption increases leading to better outcomes. Another way of making these solutions work seamlessly with your enterprise is through mobile technology. By creating ways for workers to upload and access documents while on-the-go we can help increase compliance in your company. A demonstration of the latest Ephesoft app was shown where a document can be photographed on a smartphone and uploaded directly into Ephesoft. The software recognizes the type of document and prompts the user to correct any unidentified fields.
And the best is yet to come with Ephesoft 4 right around the corner. The big announcements will come at Ephesoft INNOVATE 2015, March 15–18 in Dana Point, CA.
What happens next? Your ECM roadmap.
Mike Mahon, CEO at Zia
To end the day, Mike Mahon thanked everyone who spoke as well as all in attendance and then gave a recap of what was presented. Zia, as well as all the partners in attendance, continue their commitment to creating intuitive solutions that help to increase ROI for enterprises. In addition to this is the continuing commitment to the idea that Career Isn’t Over. The CIO position is more important than ever with increased need for security as well as collaboration.
This year Zia partnered with SeeUnity to introduce Adhere for Alfresco to solve the SharePoint issues so many enterprises are experiencing. Adhere brings integration and synchronization, federated search, records management, integrated and simplified business processes, and document security to SharePoint making it a more useful and secure tool.
In companies now, nearly everyone is in document security. As can be seen in the recent Sony scandal, more steps need to be taken to ensure key documents aren’t leaked. Through Alfresco and Covertix, we’ve created Easy ECM that allows you to keep using existing tools such as email, Dropbox, and even printers and USBs while maintaining security.
Document capture is improving thanks to Ephesoft and their in-process web capture services. These solutions integrate with Alfresco records management through a portal or website. In addition to records management, services such as Salesforce or an ERP allows for a more unified experience. Mobile capture has seen increasing improvements especially useful for the mortgage, HR, insurance, and government sectors.
Companies are continuing to look for ways to consolidate their ECM to help decrease avoidance and create secure processes across the board. In addition, consolidation brings greater value not only through an all-in-one solution, but also through a decrease in man hours because users spend less time sifting through multiple systems. ActiveMigrate from Zia allows new customers to easily bring their ECM to a new platform with little to no downtime.
At the conclusion of Mike’s talk, attendees prepared for dinner at Der Fondue Chessel at the top of a mountain in the Keystone resort. After a 30 minute gondola ride to the restaurant, we were greeted by lederhosen-clad servers with drinks and an accordion ensemble playing everything from traditional polka music to the chicken dance. After a delicious dinner everyone went back down the mountain to rest for Saturday. Many attendees took advantage of the weekend for skiing and other activities with friends and family.
Another successful Zia Summit is in the books. From in-depth training to networking with peers, attendees left with a new sense of the possibilities available to them in ECM as well as strengthened connections with customers and partners. We hope you’re able to join us next year for the 4th annual Zia Summit which promises to be even better than this year!
